The World of Darkness Part 1: Werewolves

Garou

The world of Darkness is filled with various creatures but none full of such contradiction as the Werewolves. They are not the only shape changers, they are only one of the most numerous and well known to other supernatural creatures. The Garou as they call themselves are the “Defenders of Gaia” the all mother of creation in their lore, she is more than the just the earth she is the driving force of the whole universe.

The Garou in the early days of humanity were tasked to be her warriors defenders of Gaia and protector of her creatures but they soon came under the dark aspect of Gaia’s creature of entropy “the Wyrm”. Once just the simple and natural force of death and destruction the Wyrm was driven mad by it’s sibling “the Weaver” who’s purpose is order and in it’s mad haste to create order trapped the Wyrm in it’s web changing the destiny of all creation. Rage, once a beneficial part of the Wyrm given to the Garou now too became corrupt causing the werewolves to see humankind as a threat and began to ‘cull the heard’ as they called it. Eventually the werewolves realized that the Wyrm influenced them and was no longer a part of nature as it had been. It sought to destroy, and foul Gaia herself and all she created. The Garou since then have sworn to stop the Wyrm and fight her around the world though in these the final days it seems like their fight was in vain.

The Garou are broken up into 10 main tribes, once there were more but the White Howlers fell victim to the Wyrm and now serve her as the Black Spiral Dancers. The Garou have five different forms,

Homid—The human form, one of the easiest forms for the Garou to move around in.

Glabro—Your classic Wolfman form glabro varies from werewolf to werewolf some only looking like bigger tougher humans and some gaining more wolf like features.

Crinos—The war form, this form merges man and wolf completely it also causes normal humans to experience the Delirium a primal terror that causes them to forget that a 9 foot tall werewolf just tore apart a car in front of them.

Hispo—Another war form, this however harkens back to the Garou’s ancient Dire wolf origins. It resembles the now extinct predator and induces the Delirium in humans as well.

Lupus—The wolf, Garou look like normal wolves but still retain the mind of their human selves.

I’ve really only barely scratched the surface of Garou history and lore but I think that’s quite enough to give you an idea about what's going on in the comic. As time goes on I’ll add more info about different races till then keep reading!
